Photo Day Out 2021

My first photography days out in over 1.5 years.I was lucky enough to have my first day out with Mike, we headed off to Snowdonia National Park north Wales, one of our favourite photographic locations an hour away, unfortunately the weather wasn’t as good as the forecast predicted with low cloud staying around the mountain most of the day, we had to work at trying to get some good shots with Mike driving us to different locations. Thank you Mike for all the driving.

My second day out the following week the weather was actually very nice and made the photography easier.
Often the bad weather actually makes for a more interesting photo.

I have included some of the shot of both days.

Day 1

Some old ruins and wonderful trees near the old roman road leading past Pentre Farm, Nant Ffrancon valley Snowdonia
Yup the intrepid photographer mike climbs up the river bank near Cwm Idwal, a very popular attraction for visitors interested in walking, climbing, fishing and geology.

Day 2

Dolbadarn Castle is a fortification built by the Welsh prince Llywelyn the Great during the early 13th century, at the base of the Llanberis Pass. The castle was important both militarily and as a symbol of Llywelyn’s power and authority. The castle features a large stone keep, which historian Richard Avent considers the finest surviving example of a Welsh round tower.

Anglesey Barracks in Dinorwic Quarry, comprised two rows of 11 dwellings, served as accommodation for quarrymen, they would spend the week based in the barracks working in the quarry, leaving their homes very early on Monday morning and returning Saturday afternoon. Conditions were spartan. Each two-room unit had a living area with a fireplace and a sleeping area for four men. Facilities were scant no running water, toilets or electricity. Public-health inspectors closed down these barracks in 1948.
The Dinorwic quarry is a large former slate quarry was once the second largest slate quarry in the world, located between the villages of Llanberis and Dinorwig in North Wales Backdrop is Snowdon the highest mountain in Wales, has been described as – probably the busiest mountain in Britain. It is designated as a national nature reserve for its rare flora and fauna.

July Photos

Some photos from the last few weeks, managed to get a day out in Snowdonia. The day started off grey and overcase to bright blue skies, which is always a challenge, but as I was on my own there was no rush or plan.

Recently bought a macro lens Tamron 90mm, as i spend a lot of time at home looking after my Dad it seemed a worth while investment especially with all the flowers blossoming in the garden.

Geranium robertianum, commonly known as herb-Robert, red robin, death come quickly, storksbill, fox geranium, stinking Bob, squinter-pip, crow’s foot, or Roberts geranium, is a common species of cranesbill native to Europe and parts of Asia, North America, and North Africa.
Clematis is a genus of about 300 species within the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae. painterly macro
Many of the of hoverflies have ornate body patterns, often of black and yellow, to mimic wasps and bees but are harmless
The charismatic, pink flower spikes of Foxgloves are famous as both a reminder of the hazy days of summer and of their deadly poisonous nature. Digitalis purpurea while very beautiful with its trumpet like blossoms, are very poisonous to dogs, cats, and even humans! Foxglove contains naturally-occurring poisons that affect the heart, specifically cardenolides or bufadienolides. These poisons are called cardiac glycoside toxins, and they interfere directly with electrolyte balance within the heart muscle. The Latin name, Digitalis, means ‘finger-like’ and refers to the tubular flowers of the Foxglove. It is also the name of the drug that comes from the toxins of Foxgloves and is prescribed for heart conditions.

June Photos Snowdonia

My first day out in over 6 months the weather forecast had showed my chosen day as being the best for the upcoming week.

Where I live on the coast was lovely when I woke and I was excited to be getting out after so long, I even watched a few YouTube refresher videos on using my camera.

It’s nearly a 1 hour drive to the mountains of Snowdonia and the weather had changed dramatically on arrival, most of the day was thick clouds, rain and wind not the ideal weather for a photography day out in the mountains especially when I like to get foreground, middle and distance compositions.

I decided it was pointless being depressed sitting in the car so braved the elements with my 10 stop filter fitted to the camera to try and get some drama.

Here are a few that I managed.

rain clouds and long exposure at Llyn y dywarchen fishing lake and boats, Snowdonoa north Wales, UK
Old Boats on Lake Padarn near Pont Pen-y-Llyn bridge north Wales, UK
Gwynant Lake one of the most dramatic and beautiful valleys in Wales. Its northern slopes rise to the summit of Wales highest mountain Snowdon and to the south lies the relatively undisturbed hills of Moel y Dyniewyd and the Moelwynion range.
Pont Pen y Llyn bridge was built in 1826 to connect the Fachwen slate quarry to the main road from Caernarfon to Llanberis. It has four arches and crosses the river Rhythallt, the outlet of Padarn lake. Pen y Llyn means “end of the lake”. The lake is a glacially formed lake in Snowdonia, Gwynedd, north Wales, UK
